About Molly

Molly Murphy is an indie-folk artist based in New York City. She crafts harmony-rich songs imbued with affection for her roots in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a welcoming hunger for the constant change of the city.

Hailing from the Virginia countryside, Molly began singing and performing at age six. In high school, she wrote her first original songs, crafting an independent study her senior year where she learned to record and produce in Logic. While earning her degree in Music and Media Studies at the University of Virginia, Molly performed locally throughout Charlottesville as both a solo act and as part of several musical groups. It was here she met many musicians and artists who would become future peers and collaborators in New York City.

In 2019, Molly moved to New York, cutting her teeth in the open mic scene, particularly at The Topaz in East Williamsburg. Since then, she’s performed throughout the city at storied venues including Mercury Lounge, Berlin, the Bowery Electric, and more. In 2020, she released her first EP, Call Me Elsewhere, which she self-produced between NYC and Virginia during the pandemic.

On November 18, 2022, Molly released her sophomore record, Were You Digging for Some Deeper Meaning?. Produced with Lovegrove Studios in her childhood home, it concerns itself with the ephemera of youth and what we can do with the beauty and pain of nostalgia.
